Child Protection Class and Background Checks
All people who intend to work or volunteer in any of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati parishes, schools, or institutions, must attend a VIRTUS® Child Awareness Session for the Decree on Child Protection before you are approved to work with children.
Effective June 18, 2012, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has substantially changed the way it conducts training for its Decree on Child Protection. All training sessions on the Decree will now be known as VIRTUS® Child Awareness Sessions. Each Child Awareness Session will last 3½ – 4 hours. No one under the age of 18 will be allowed in the sessions.
Those new volunteers who need training must attend a Virtus training class.
You may register at VIRTUS to attend a Child Awareness Session.
Select “Registration” on the left side of the screen.
From there you can “View a list of sessions”, and follow the onscreen prompts to register for a session.
Once you register for VIRTUS, you will need to complete a selection.com background check.
In addition to attending a Child Protection Class, all volunteers must request an online background check by logging into their Virtus account, clicking on the “toolbox” tab, and following the Selection.com background check hot link located in the upper left hand corner of the screen. You will be asked to pay a $25 one-time fee for the background check, which the parish will reimburse upon request. Contact Debbie Stewart in the parish business office. The parish also can provide a prepaid token that can be used at checkout. Please contact Jeanne Sheppard or Steve Morris in the business office to request a prepaid token. Note: St. Charles Borromeo in Kettering must be your primary location in Virtus for background check cost reimbursement.
