Volunteer Qualification
Step 1: Register online for a Virtus® account Click here for printable instructions on how to register.
Step 2: Pre-register for a Child Protection “Live Training” class by logging into your online Virtus account and clicking on the Training tab. The “Live Training” classes last about 3 hours. This class is for adults only due to the nature of the content that will be discussed. You may register and attend any Live Training class that is listed. When you attend the class, be sure and sign in. The Archdiocese uses the sign-in sheet to validate your attendance.
Step 3: Order up an online background check by clicking on the Selection.com Background Check link under the Toolbox tab. There is a one-time fee of $25 to do an online background check. You may pay that fee with a credit card and upon request, St. Charles Borromeo will reimburse the cost for our parishioners or you may contact the parish business office in advance to request a prepaid token.
Step 4: On the first Sunday of each month, Virtus.org will publish an informative bulletin on a child protection topic. The bulletins are short and can be completed in 3-5 minutes. They conclude with a 1-question quiz on the bulletin content. To remain compliant, volunteers must read the monthly bulletin and correctly answer the quiz question. Getting behind on reading the bulletins may result in inactivating your Virtus account.
Each month the parish business office publishes an approved volunteer list and they make that list available to employees and ministry leaders. If you are not on the list, you may NOT volunteer around children while on parish property or while performing ministerial duties.
For questions on volunteering, please contact the parish business office.
