CHARGER CHATTER
January 4, 2021!
Mrs. Kathy Dorsten has been a vital part of the St. Charles teaching staff for over thirty years. She has taught first and second grade as well as physical education. Mrs. Dorsten has been an encouraging figure full of energy and dedication for the advancement of St. Charles School and our students. Countless students have passed through Mrs. Dorsten’s classroom doors. She has even taught some of her former students children. Mrs. Dorsten has been instrumental in many school events and celebrations. Field Day, and Hoops and Jump Rope for the Heart will not be the same without her. Our teacher/student volleyball games and cup stacking competitions will miss her guidance and refereeing skills. Mrs. Dorsten will officially retire this month and we wish her many blessings in her retirement.
Thank you
Mrs. Dorsten!
We will be welcoming Mr. Nick Delk as our new PE teacher on January 19. Mr. Delk is a recent graduate from Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education and has spent much of his teacher training in the West Carrollton school district.

Volunteers needed to Judge Science Fair!

Science Fair will be a virtual event this year, but I am still in need of judges. A science or engineering background is nice, but not a requirement. In accordance with the State Science Fair guidelines, students will be preparing a narrated Google Slide presentation for their project. I will make these files accessible to judges through a Google Drive. If all goes to plan, judging will be open the third and fourth weeks of January. I'm estimating each presentation to be around five minutes, and judges would likely be responsible for scoring eight presentations. I will provide a score sheet and a list of standardized questions. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email me at cbigelow@stcharleskettering.org

Catholic Social Services Opportunity!

Though the holidays are passing, the winter still leaves many of our neighbors hungry with difficulty accessing food. We invite families to request a FOOD commodity BAG and a shopping list from the school office. Families are asked to adopt a bag and fill it with the specific list of items and return it to the school office by Friday, January 15. These bags will be used as emergency assistance bags to be distributed from the food pantry at Catholic Social Services. The school has been asked to fill fifty bags and we greatly appreciate your help.

Please click on the link to request a food commodity bag and shopping list.
FREE Lunches will continue till the end of the year!
(Students still have to pay for certain ala cart items)

St. Albert Nutrition Service is happy to pass along that the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending flexibilities to allow free meals to continue to be available to all children throughout the entire 2020-2021 school year. This unprecedented move is part of USDA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring all children across America have access to nutritious food as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to Free Breakfast and Lunch to all students, we have applied for and received a grant which helps provide funds to allow more fresh fruits and vegetables to students. Please help us encourage your students to take all the items available to them. If packing, students can grab a “Sidekick” bag containing a fruit, vegetable and milk free of charge!

We are still accepting Free and Reduced meal applications for a smooth transition for the 2021/2022 school year. Please visit our website for applications
