Flu Recommendations for Schools from
Dayton & Montgomery County Public Health
The flu is a very contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses.
The best way to keep everyone healthy during flu season is to:
  • Get vaccinated now - it is NOT too late! Flu vaccines are usually given without cost to the patient.
  • Contact your health care provider if your child is experiencing flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headaches, fatigue).
  • Keep sick family members HOME for 24 hours after fever (without fever reducing medicines) and symptoms leave, and follow your physician's guidance on treatment.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Cover sneezes and cough with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Avoid touching the T-Zone (eyes, nose, mouth). If you do touch your eyes, nose or mouth, wash your hands.
