Today our 5th Graders celebrated Henry Kaufman and his recent Cancer Free diagnosis, we admire his strength and courage over the past two years. Mrs. Bundy wrote this beautiful poem for Henry!

Henry, Our Hero

Cheers to Henry, Hip-hip-hooray!
We celebrate you this wonderful day!

Your life, your health, your friendship’s a blessing.
Standing here before you, with this message we bring…

You were dealt a hand no one should ever suffer,
Faith, courage, and strength you did muster.
For all those qualities, we’re inspired by you…
Not only that, You’re smart, you’re funny, and you’re a fighter too!

You’ve accomplished something that’s no small feat,
It’s challenging, difficult, and painful to beat.

You’re quite the magician,
You made cancer disappear.
Though the journey was long and tough,
You did it in just over 2 years!

You’ve worked SO hard, and we are so proud.
We’re so excited to say it out loud.

You did it Henry,
You beat cancer, it’s true!
Your teachers, your friends, your family,
We love you!

This cancer was with you for the last few years.
It brought pain, frustration, and many tears.
It’s time to say goodbye, with these bubbles we blow.
We release the trouble, heartaches, and woes.

Nurse News!

As we approach cold and flu season, here are just a few reminders....
  1. If you or members of your family have not received the flu vaccine, now is a great time to get that done. According to the CDC an annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu.
  2. Wash those hands!!  The CDC also states that handwashing can help prevent illness. It involves five simple steps (wet, lather with soap, scrub, rinse, dry) you can take to help reduce the spread of germs. It is quick, it's simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick.

Over the course of the next 2 weeks, the school nurse will be visiting grades TK-5th grade to discuss when to wash hands and how to wash hands. Students will be bringing home a poster on how to wash hands.  Click here to see poster.

Screening results/referrals were sent home at conferences. If you did not attend a conference, screening results were sent home through the mail. If you have not received results for your child, please contact the school nurse at  sullmer@stcharleskettering.org
