Charger Chatter
March 18, 2019
Thank you to the many volunteers who worked feverishly so that we could have a fun filled Fish Fry event. The Fish-N- Chips Committee has been planning and meeting for months. They spent countless hours ensuring there was an abundance of silent auction items as well as entertainment, games of chance, and food. Whether you worked two hours or were visible in the school day after day planning and preparing, or were here all day Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday your hard work is appreciated by myself and the staff at St. Charles School.

As was stated several times over the loud speaker during the event, "It is for the children," all proceeds from the event go to benefit the athletic programs and the programs of the PTO. The PTO is dedicating all if its proceeds to the funding of STEM initiatives in the school.

The opportunities that we provide our students through the athletic program, PTO, Knights of Columbus, and by the school can not happen without the commitment of time that our volunteers provide. These organizations are always looking for help. If you don't know who to contact to offer your services please reach out to the school office and we can assist you in contacting the right person to fit your volunteer interests.

Again thank you to the Fish-N-Chips committee and to those who volunteered and supported our event.

God Bless,

David Bogle
Principal
From Fish N' Chips Silent Auction Committee

Thanks to everyone for coming out to Fish 'n Chips this past weekend!
We hope you all had a great time! If you happened to walk out with your bidding number lanyard, please return it to the front office, or to Becky Mueller, Cydney Harkness or Susie Litke, as soon as possible.

Also, the Silent Auction Committee would love to have as many baskets back as possible. Returning these items to us helps keep our costs down from year to year.
Thanks so much for supporting St. Charles!

The week of March 18th grades K- 5 th  will participate in our Jump for Heart event.
Hoops for Heart Basketball tournament will be held Friday March 22nd  for students in grades 6 th , 7 th  and 8 th
This program helps students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health, but also teaches children the value of giving back to those in need. Heart disease affects many families in our community, so your support means a lot!

Lunch 'n Learn Potluck with Farmer Dan
The quality of the food we eat has a direct correlation to the quality of our health. The most nutritious food comes from small farms, however, our local family farmers are in trouble. Farms that have been in the same family for generations are being pushed out of the field (literally) by rising interest rates, corporate influence and misleading marketing. Join us in the Charles-Borromeo Room of the church on Tuesday, March 19 at noon to hear Farmer Dan Kremer offer his insights on being good stewards of our land, animals and bodies. Bring a dish to share, and call the Parish Office with any questions: 937-434-6081.
ST. CHARLES LENTEN ALMSGIVING

For Love of Children

We don’t normally think of Christmas during Lent. But at For Love of Children, it is a year-long process to replenish the shelves in their Toy Village that provides the only Christmas gifts some area youth may receive. Last year the program provided gifts for 1600 children from Montgomery County Children’s Services and two local schools. Because of the large number of families, limited time, and limited space, For Love of Children has learned to become very efficient and has set up their Toy Village like a mini supermarket. For that reason they are requesting very specific items, brand, size, etc. which will not only help their efforts, but also make your shopping easier. Please visit the display in the Gathering Space to pick up cards for items to purchase and donate. For more information go to  https://flocdayton.org/

  • For Love of Children provides financial, educational and advocacy support for youth throughout the Greater Dayton Area, serving children from newborn to age 18. They offer several programs and services. For our part, we will be collecting items such toys, dolls, stuffed animals, board games, pajamas, and slippers. For list of items please click on google document https://goo.gl/J34N5A

St. Mary Development

St. Mary Connect is their program which links residents in St. Mary Development Corporation's affordable apartment communities to services such as healthcare , insurance, meal programs and transportation. On their own, residents have extreme difficulty accessing many programs and often give up in frustration before receiving adequate needed care. This is bad for both the resident whose health deteriorates, as well as the community at large, whose tax dollars end up paying the cost of more expensive safety-net programs or nursing home care when a resident experiences a crisis.

  • St. Mary Development Corporation provides safe and affordable housing to low-income senior citizens. We will be collecting items such as household goods and personal hygiene items. Their website is stmarydevelopment.org. Some donation items include: RTA bus passes, paper towels, toilet paper, new socks, laundry detergent, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste and hand soap.

Thank you for supporting our parish wide Lenten Almsgiving project.
All donations may be turned into your students homeroom teacher.
