LIBRARY UPDATE
St. Charles is hosting a Follett Book Fair this week!

Supporting a love of reading is critical to student success. The Follett Book Fair encourages your child's reading habits, builds their personal libraries and raises funds for the school library, all at the same time.

The Follett Book Fair will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:35 am - 3:15 pm. On Friday we will be open from 7:35 am to 12:15 pm. We will be open on Wednesday for Literacy Night from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The Book Fair is located in the school library on the second floor of the school.

Teachers have chosen books to be purchased for their classrooms. Check out the teacher wish bags when you visit. Please send enough money to cover the sales tax. Visit  follettgift.com   to purchase a Follett gift card for your child.

All sales benefit the school library. Looking forward to seeing you at Book Fair!

Happy Reading,
Mrs. Brown

Fish N Chips Volunteers- We Need Your Help!

In order to make this night incredible, we rely heavily on volunteers! We have many needs the night of the event (Friday, March 15th), but also have volunteer needs on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Please help us in any way you can (set-up, serving drinks, dealing blackjack, checking-in volunteers, tear-down, etc.) by signing up at the following link:

We will have a volunteer gathering Thursday night (March 14th) sponsored by Devil Wind Brewing where we will provide some training and answer any questions so we're all on the same page for Friday night. We hope you can join us for that as well!

More Fish and Chips News!
St. Charles parents, have any unused baskets taking up space around your house? The Fish 'n Chips team would LOVE to take them off your hands for use in our silent auction. The team is also looking for gift cards (preferably full ones) that you wouldn't mind regifting. Please bring any donations to the school office this week. Thanks for your help!

Ready to get your Fish 'n Chips luck started early? How does a $1500 tuition credit or $1000 cash sound to you? Look for the Grand Raffle table upstairs, across from the library, during Literacy Night to purchase your tickets. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted. Tickets are $10 each, 3 for $25 or 7 for $50.
Pick up your Fish Fry Posters in the main office! Please take a poster and hang at your local business to promote the BEST FISH FRY IN TOWN!
In the past week, St. Charles has seen a slight increase in flu like illness, both confirmed influenza A and flu-like illness.
This slight increase is something we typically see every year.

*When your student is sick you MUST call or email the office each day your child is absent.

Some things that you can do to prevent the flu (influenza):
  • Get the flu vaccine - it is not too late. Although the flu vaccine, may not be exactly on target, research does indicate that the vaccines still lowers the number of cases and could decrease the severity if you do develop the flu.
  • Frequent and thorough hand washing. Please continue to reinforce this with your students. https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/pdf/wash-your-hands-steps-8x11.pdf
  • Do not touch used tissues.
  • Clean classroom surfaces and frequently used items. See link https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pdf/freeresources/updated/cleaning_disinfecting_schools.pdf
  • If you are sick, stay home and seek medical attention. Tamiflu can be prescribed. An infectious disease MD on a podcast yesterday stated that the flu is hitting VERY hard this year and that Tamiflu is being drastically UNDERPRESCRIBED across the country. Tamiflu will not cure the flu (as it is a virus, not a bacteria) - but will shorten/lessen the symptoms by a few days. Tamiflu is not like an antibiotic that your body can build up a resistance to, so you would not have to worry about it somehow not working in the future.

Please review every day preventive actions in the link below.
Register for Munchkin Track and CYO Track Now!
Register online at  http://tshq.bluesombrero.com/stcharles CYO Track is open for students grades 4th-8th.
Munchkin Track is open for students PreK 4's through 3rd Grade.

We are still in need of a coordinator for CYO Track and coaches for both. Please consider volunteering!
Baseball Families
CYO removed baseball as a sport a few years ago and our Athletics Commission has some equipment that will no longer be used. We'd like to offer it to our St Charles families who have children playing baseball/softball first before we offer it externally to other organizations.
We have: bats, helmets, catcher's equipment, etc.
If you're interested, please stop by the cafeteria entrance to the school at 12:00pm this Sunday, March 3rd and take what you'd like. We would love to see the equipment find a good Charger home!
