Support the Knights of Columbus!

The annual Knights of Columbus Ribfest is Saturday, October 6. The Knights raise over $10,000 annually from the Ribfest to support technology efforts in the school. St. Charles utilizes the $68,000 total contribution over the past six years to purchase chromebooks for our junior high students. The one-to-one chromebook initiative has been very successful at St. Charles and contributes to our student success at high school.

Please support the Knights and our technology efforts at St. Charles by attending the annual Ribfest. Ticket and sponsor information was sent home and is also attached to this newsletter. If you are unable to attend you can still enter the reverse raffle or make a contribution.

The Knights are also looking for volunteers to help out during the event. Please review the sign up website for volunteer opportunities. You don't have to be a Knight to volunteer.

Thank you for your support of St. Charles School!
GARDEN NEWS!

The Sensory Garden is under construction!
It has been a lot of meetings and phone calls, but Rindler Landscaping, Jon Albrecht, and Rob Elliott are assisting us. The Rindler family is donating their time to remove the sod, work in the compost, and place stones. Jon is donating his time to build the recirculating stream bed and hopes to start this weekend. Rob arranged to get all the stone donated by his employer Martin Marrietta Materials. We are so thankful these guys are laying the foundation for the garden. Mr. Bogle is planning on the students to plant flowers and spread mulch in a day of service, so be on the look out for that!

The Outdoor Classroom space will be finished after school October 12.
Ian Carter is working on this project for his Eagle Scout award.

The next bit of exciting news is that the
Garden Dedication is scheduled for October 25 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Food will be available, and there will be "booths" scattered around the back parking lot with different information and activities. Five Rivers MetroParks will bring their animal ambassadors and have tables with composting and native plant demos. There will be rock painting, and Mrs. Brown has agreed to hold story time. If any groups would like a table to promote a group please click here!

As of 9/25, the student gardens have generated 524.47 pounds of produce. 296.95 lbs went to the food pantry.
156.29 lbs has gone into the students and their families. 71.23 lbs went to my summer volunteers. All of this food has a value of $805.66!
Thank you!

Dear St. Charles Families,

Our school is hosting a Follett Book Fair!
Supporting a love for reading is critical to student success. Supporting your school is just as important. The Follett Book Fair encourages your child's reading habits, builds their personal libraries and raises funds for the school, all at the same time.
What makes Follett Book Fairs different?
Follett has been supporting schools for more than 140 years which means you can expect an awesome selection of titles, from a wide range of publishers. These are the books your kids want to read. See the book fair flyer for some examples.  Visit www.follettgift.com to purchase a Follett gift card for your student.
Book fair dates:  October 8, 2018 – October 12, 2018
Times:  School hours plus Wednesday 10/10/18 open for Family Night from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and the  After School Special on Thursday, 10/11/18 from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
If you want to volunteer at the Follett Book Fair, a few spots are still open.
Thank you for supporting St. Charles School Library and the avid readers in your family by visiting the book fair. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Margaret Brown

For those of you new to the school; this is a fish fry and monte carlo night with auctions, games, live music, gambling, and much more. For those interested in helping, please attend the meeting. Entertainment Books

The school students will be bringing home an Entertainment Book for families to sell or purchase. A member of each family is provided with one book and is usually sent home with the youngest child. Please review the book and if you decide to purchase the book or sell it to a friend return the money back to the school as soon as possible. If you choose not to sell or purchase the book please simply have your child return it to their teacher.

I encourage every family to participate in this fundraising effort. The Knights of Columbus donate a portion of the proceeds back to the school and use the income to offer four $500 scholarships to a graduating eighth grader who will attend a Catholic High School.

Thank you for supporting this valuable fundraiser.
