St. Charles Spirit Store open
Every Friday After School!
A New dishwasher was generously donated to St. Charles by the Hobart Corp.
In the first eight days of school that the dishwasher has been in use, we have saved 1,175 Styrofoam trays from going in the garbage can! According to Mr. Bogle, that translates to more than five bags of garbage per day.
Mr. Bogle said that students like the new trays because “they don’t crack when you put your milk on them,” which has resulted in a cleaner cafeteria
and less food waste from spillage.
In July, Hobart Corporation donated a $35,000 commercial dishwasher to the parish. We spent $7,500 to install it in the school cafeteria. The students are now enjoying lunch on washable plastic trays, eliminating the Styrofoam containers that have been used for the past 12 (or more) years. During the first full week of school, we avoided throwing out 5 large garbage bags of landfill trash  EACH DAY ! We will discontinue using around 25,000 Styrofoam containers per year. In addition, the kids like the plastic trays better because the new trays don't collapse when you put a carton of milk on the tray!
