St. Charles Lenten Almsgiving Project
St. Charles School has incorporated the Beatitudes into our curriculum and Faith Family activities this school year. The Beatitudes call us to live a life of Christ's presence through outwards signs of being peacemakers, bringing reconciliation, seeking opportunities for mercy and compassion, and pursuing justice and righteousness. We strive to live each Beatitude one action at a time and one day at a time.

As Lent approaches the school staff and students are preparing for our Lenten Almsgiving project.  St. Charles school students in coordination with the parish will be collecting item necessities for two local charities,  Brigid's Path  and  Homefull  during the Lenten season. We ask that all donations are provided prior to March 23, 2018. Each classroom will have receptacles for donations and will deliver them to church each Tuesday for collection by the Social Action Committee.

Brigid's Path  is the first facility in Ohio, and just the second in the country, to specialize in providing care for drug exposed newborns. They welcome newborns.from area hospitals who are medically stable but still need to go through a painful withdrawal process..Brigid's Path provides a quiet, comforting environment with one-on-one medical staff and many supporting volunteers. They also provide non-judgemental support for mothers and education services to improve family outcomes. St. Charles will be collecting items needed for the babies and general supplies for the facility.

Homefull  in Dayton got its start many years ago as a temporary homeless shelter for about 20 people. They now help more than 600 people daily. More than just a shelter, they offer a comprehensive list of services designed to help people find and keep jobs and homes. Clients moving out of the shelter system typically have very few possessions, and definitely don't have all the items they need to make a fresh start in a new home. St. Charles will be collecting the items they need for their new start in life.

We greatly appreciate your assistance in helping our students understand Lenten Almsgiving and living a life through the Beatitudes.

The Five Rivers MetroParks OUTstanding Teacher Award goes to three educators each year who strive to increase their students’ exposure to and appreciation of nature. The Bigelow Family nominated Mrs. Rodman because of the opportunities she offers students and her passion for getting kids outside interacting with nature. We are pleased to say that Mrs. Rodman won the OUTstanding Teacher Award this year.

As co-chairs of the Garden Committee,
Mr. and Mrs. Bigelow, have had the pleasure of working with her to design the future gardens at St. Charles.  Mrs. Rodman started this process several years ago by creating the Butterfly Garden you see in front of the school. That serves as one of her “outdoor classrooms” where her students observe and interact with the natural world. Pair these gardening efforts with her worm bin, classroom pets, and cacti, and that is why she is well deserving of the award.

Mrs. Rodman will formally receive her award from MetroParks in March at the No Child Left Inside Summit to be held at the new Dayton Metro Library downtown.

Thank you to the Bigelow Family for being so proactive in our Garden Committee and recognizing an amazing teacher!

Fish n' Chips - March 16th:
Attention St. Charles Families, if you have any gift cards that are sitting around collecting dust at your house, please consider donating them to Fish 'n Chips. They can be used in both silent auction baskets and Grub Grab. You can send them to school in an envelope labeled Fish 'n Chips. Thanks for your help!

Featured Auction Item of the Week!

Are your kids getting bored with the same old ride to school? Mix up their morning by having either a firetruck or a police car drive them to school! Specific details about both these items will be revealed at Fish 'n Chips on March 16th.

Is your child longing to go back to Mrs. Bonanno's 1st grade class? Maybe they want to hang out in the gym with Mrs. Dorsten all day, or perhaps they want to rule the school by being Mr. Bogle for a day? Up for grabs again this year are the chances for your student to be a Kindergarten or 1st grade assistant, principal, specials teachers, front office staff, or lunch monitor for the day. Almost all of these items sold VERY quickly last year. Prepare your plan of attack now, and we'll see you on the 16th for a fun night of bidding!

In order to make this event possible, we need volunteers. Can you pour beer, deal blackjack, sell raffle tickets, set-up/tear-down, etc.?

Please sign up for a shift or two for the night or day-after at:  https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/1390831/false#/invitation  We need your help!
