Sacramental Preparation

At St. Charles School, we work as individuals and as a community to build a strong foundation of faith. As our vision statement reminds us, “Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school. He is the unseen but ever-present teacher in its classes. He is the model for its faculty and the inspiration for its students.” Our Catholic faith is integrated in every school subject to bridge our ideals, ethics and morality with the learning environment. We nourish the continuous development of our students’ spiritual and personal growth. Along the way, there are some important milestones your child will experience.

Reconciliation

This is a special communal service when we gather in church to reflect on our sinfulness and, more importantly, on the God’s love for us. At St. Charles School, receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time takes place prior to First Eucharist. The opportunity for individual reconciliation with one of approximately nine priests will be part of this prayer service. Families are encouraged to participate in these services together.

Eucharist

First Eucharist at St. Charles School is received in the second grade, about age seven or eight. Children are prepared by classes in the school and the Faith Formation programs. They are also formed by the example of their parents and the community. First Eucharist will take place during the Easter season during regularly scheduled Sunday Masses.

Confirmation

Confirmation at St. Charles School is celebrated with eighth grade youth or older who are ready to make the decision to confirm their Catholic faith. Requirements include active participation in a Catholic school or Faith Formation program for at least the last two years. Preparation will consist of a service project, a retreat and attending two Sunday “Spirit Mornings.” Preparation usually begins in the fall.
